Day 11 & 12

Image
Last days on the road! Leaving our friends was hard! I was definitely not excited to be headed home to the heat as I stood outside in the sun loading the car! Our journey was uneventful as we traveled to Waxhaw, North Carolina! I drove today. Per Einar has done most of the driving which I have been so thankful! We are a good team! I provide food and kid diversions; he drives! We decided to stop in NC to see the JAARS base. We had dinner with a lovely couple who were surrogate grandparents for Per Einar growing up in PNG. Lois is from New Jersey & Alex is from Australia. They met & married in PNG almost 59 years ago! It was such a sweet thing meeting with them. We wished we had more time at the JAARS base! We had one more missionary encounter at the base. Tim joined us as we ate breakfast before headed home. He's a boat captain & hopes to find his way back again to PNG soon! His wife is already over there working! Reflections in this adventure: Thankful for God's saf...

Day 9 & 10

Better late than never!!! Friday & Saturday. Winding down! Saying good bye to the Kentucky farm Traveling to some of our best friends in West Virginia that moved about 2 years ago! They have three boys with lots of energy like ours! Playing with friends & new toys is very exciting! Hiking in the hills of WV was beautiful! It's nice to be with friends & God's beautiful creation!!! We had a lovely pizza lunch in town! You know everyone is tired in hungry if a table of 4 adults & 5 kids under 6 is silent. That night we had a fire pit with smores!

Day 8

A day of wonder!!!!!! It was just one of those days that was absolutely perfect! Aidan woke up feeling better. There's no room for complaining when Gods beautiful creation is right outside your doorstep! It was a relaxing morning at the farm which included playing in the pool, seeing the farm animals, & just enjoying the fresh air! Then we went on our Ark Encounter adventure. Its a life sized recreation of Noah's ark. It left me speechless, utterly amazed, & full of wonder. One of my first thoughts was I could see how people thought Noah was a little crazy to build such a thing! I'm not sure how to really capture in words the experience. It was truly moving & amazing. It was so neat thinking about all the preparation Noah, his wife, his three sons & their wives did for this adventure! Planning the boat & then knowing all about the animals & what supplies & foods to bring! And thinking it was not just the 40days/40 nights. They had to plan for a y...

Day 7

Image
Headed to Kentucky We really enjoyed our time in Michigan! It was bittersweet leaving our friends Sara & Daryl, their beautiful house, and the great area of our country. Goodbyes are always silly with little boys!!! I think we beat our record today by driving through 4 states: Michigan, Indiana, Ohio (even if it was less than 30 minutes & a glance at the Ohio river seen below) & Kentucky! Of course, we had to stop by that creamery again for lunch, ice-cream, & groceries! Made it to our Kentucky farm paradise! It's so peaceful & beautiful! Sheep, llamas, & alpacas greeted us as we arrived! We have farm fresh eggs in our fridge! More pictures of the other farm animals tomorrow! Please say a pray for Aidan! He went to bed early tonight not feeling 100%. Headed to the reason why we came-if all goes well in the morning-the Ark encounter.

Day 6

Tuesday, june 27th Chicago wore us Evensen's out! It was an early morning start with a little longer than a hour in the car followed by two hours on the train! The boys were really excited about that. It wasn't quite like our Norwegian train trips (there's usually a small playground inside), but it was nice! We made it to the Windy City after our trip across three states! We made it our goal to do the Field museum. We got to see lots of stuffed animals & relics! There was a Pacific exhibit that had several relics that reminded Per Einar of PNG. My favorite was the bug exhibit where it "shrunk" you & took you underground to see all the tiny things in the soil! Micah needed to hold my hand through the whole thing! Seeing ants the size of yourself can be scary! The ladt picture is Aidan coming out of a cicada shell in the underground exhibit. After the museum, we walked along Lake Michigan on a beautiful summer day. The water was such a clear blue, aqua! It...
